SpeakAlert Privacy Policy

Information Collection and Use

SpeakAlert does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information to its own servers.

• Voice recordings and reminder data are stored locally on your device
• No data is uploaded to SpeakAlert servers

If Android device backup is enabled, some app data may be backed up to your Google account by the Android system.

Permissions

SpeakAlert uses the following permissions only for core app functionality:

• Microphone: Required to record voice reminders
• Notifications: Required to deliver reminders
• Exact Alarms (USE_EXACT_ALARM): Required for precise reminder timing
• RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED: Required to reschedule reminders after device restart
• FOREGROUND_SERVICE: Required to run reminder playback in the foreground
• FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MEDIA_PLAYBACK: Required for audio playback while the app is not in the foreground
• WAKE_LOCK: Ensures reminders can play reliably when the device is locked
• VIBRATE: Enables vibration alerts for reminders

These permissions are used only to support reminder functionality and are not used for tracking or data collection.

Foreground Service

SpeakAlert may use a foreground service to play reminder sounds reliably, especially when the device is locked. This service runs only when a reminder is active and stops automatically afterward.

Audio Playback

SpeakAlert plays reminder sounds using:

• Voice recordings created by the user
• Text-to-speech (TTS)
• System alarm tones (when enabled)

All audio playback happens locally on the device.

For text-to-speech, reminder text may be processed by the device’s selected TTS engine provider according to your device settings. SpeakAlert does not transmit this data to any external servers.

Data Storage, Retention, and Deletion

• All reminder data and recordings remain on your device
• Data is retained until you delete it or uninstall the app
• You can delete reminders at any time within the app

Data Sharing

SpeakAlert does not share any user data with third parties.

Third-Party / System Services

SpeakAlert relies on Android system services for certain functionality, including:

• Device backup (if enabled by the user)
• Text-to-speech engine processing (based on system settings)

These services are controlled by your device and operating system.

Data Security

All data remains on the user's device. SpeakAlert does not use cloud storage, analytics, tracking, or background data collection.

Data Safety

SpeakAlert does not collect or share personal data.
All statements in this Privacy Policy are consistent with the app’s Data Safety section on Google Play.

Children’s Privacy

SpeakAlert does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to This Policy

If this privacy policy changes, updates will be posted on this page.
